Unit Host GNAS Archery Leader Course | | In conjunction with FACCG, members of the 13th Fife Explorer Scout Unit hosted GNAS Senior Coach, Philip Van Buren and twelve aspiring Archery Leaders at Fordell Firs Scout National Activity Centre for 4-days between Friday 4th and Monday 7th September 2009. |
Starting from Friday lunch, we prepared and served lunches, dinners and breakfast, washed dishes and kept the accommodation clean thus allowing the participants to concentrate on their task at hand...
GNAS Course Units for Archery Community Sports Leader Award as as follows:
Unit A: General
Candidates will gain knowledge of:
1. all safety observances and rules
2. alternative range layouts with regard to public and participant safety
3. suitable rounds for beginners and juniors
4. various forms of archery
5. various incentives schemes
Unit B: Shooting
Candidates will learn how to hit the target consistently at up to 20 yards using basic Bare-Bow & Freestyle methods.
Unit C: Teaching and improving
Candidates will be able to:
1. teach basic Bare-Bow style
2. teach basic Freestyle
3. improve performance in both
Unit D: Equipment care, safety and use
Candidates shall learn how to:
1. advise on suitable equipment for activity groups and individuals
2. recommend sources of supply and be aware of costs
3. maintain equipment in good working order
4. understand the importance of equipment maintenance ref. safety and accident prevention |
In the evenings, the Explorer Scouts made the most of the available archery range and shot several ends but before all of this, they were kept busy by the site warden after volunteering to refurbish one of the campsite cook huts.
